The author conducted a qualitative research project to see how it was designed and taught at the School of Foreign Languages. The researcher compared and analysed the course syllabus with NAATI test format, used a questionnaire and observed teachers’ classes to collect data. The findings showed a mismatch between the course’s important position and the standards by NAATI as well as the teaching methods demonstrated by the teachers.

Exploring the intercultural communicative competence intergration in foreign teaching and learning
At present, English is officially taught to Vietnamese learners from grade three onwards. Previously, English language teaching and learning had long focused on putting in great efforts to develop the functions and uses of English. The fact is that despite being proficient in English, most Vietnamese students who graduate from a university are unable to communicate effectively in English with co-workers from different cultural backgrounds.

The effectiveness of task - based - language teaching in improving ielts reading skill
The present paper attempts to emphasise the mutual connection between testing and teaching in light of evaluating the effectiveness of task-oriented IELTS activities on the performances of IELTS trainees in their reading test. For this purpose, the learners in an IELTS preparation center in Hanoi were treated with IELTS reading materials under the adoption of task-based language teaching approach (TBLT) for three months.

A literature review on using the first language in a second or foreign language classroom

Primary English language teachers’ engagement in professional development
This paper outlines a project researching PELTers’ PD in a period of ongoing educational transformation, initiated by the National Foreign Languages Project. The authors highlight a ‘mixed methods’ research design with data collected from 68 surveys and five individual semi-structured interviews in a province in North Vietnam.
